How an entire month has slipped by is just crazy. April was my birthday month and a lot actually happened. For a major event, my husband retired April 1st. His retirement has affected almost every aspect of my life and that includes my art life.

So, here’s a quick recap of my April. Well actually, let’s back up to March. My son turned 19!

Asher's 19th birthday celebration.

How he’s 19 is a mystery. The time has just flown by. We’ve celebrated all of his birthdays either in this dining room or in the kitchen which is the room behind us. He’s living a fun and busy life of a college kid now. I see him most weekends, but not all.

I made him this really delicious chocolate cake with fudge and strawberry icing off Pinterest. Now let’s get back to April.

Wow, this month has changed everything. My husband retired from a job he had for 26 years. Honestly, I was worried about him being home all of the time but so far so good. He’s loving retirement.

At the beginning of April, I went on another Paranormal Investigation with my group The Hot Flash Honeys. We went to Randolph County Infirmary in Winchester, Indiana. It was fun and had some good activity at the beginning. I’ll have to tell you about that later.

We were there during the full pink moon. You can see it just above the horizon in the right quarter of the photo. It had a little of a pink haze, but it wasn’t very pink looking to me.

Next up, is a friend’s opening reception at Ohio Valley Art League gallery. Lesley Nelson, she’s in the center of all of us. She has a beautiful exhibit up through June. All the work you see behind us is hers. Plus, there’s more all around each wall. She’s the most prolific artist I know. I really don’t think she even sleeps, hahah. I’d love to be just half as productive as she is.

Then, about mid April we celebrated Asher’s girlfriend’s 19th birthday. There’s three birthday’s between us in March and April. I got her a few adult coloring books and two sets of Prismacolors which are artist grade colored pencils and the best in my opinion. She loved them. Oh and I made her a pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting. That’s what she wanted!

The third week of April, my husband was getting antsy for a road trip. So, I thought it was a good time to travel to see this Azalea Path in Hazelton Indiana. I’ve always heard lots of good things about it. It sure didn’t disappoint. I took so many photos it was ridiculous. I’ll share some more of those with you soon, but here’s two.

Not everything was blooming yet but it was still beautiful.

Next up, Daryl had the good idea of getting us some e-bikes for retirement. We’ve already been riding all around our area. If you’ve never rode one, I highly recommend them. They are so fun without all the work. I grew up riding bikes with my parents and it’s a wonderful childhood memory. I wish I could’ve had that memory with Asher, but where we live it’s pretty hard to ride a normal bike. Lots of hills.

The same weekend, Asher had his second race of the season at Lynnville Park in Lynnville, Indiana. He’s in a new class this year and he’s doing pretty good. This was a tough course because of many reasons, but it was really muddy this time. No trophy this round, but it won’t be long and he’ll get another one I’m sure. We’ve had crazy rain this month.

After the race, somehow he still had energy to test drive our bikes. He loved them. Maybe I can still have that dream of all of us riding together.

Finally, my birthday was just this past Monday the 28th. Double nickels. Holy cow, how did this happen?? Oh well, it is what it is. Here’s my newest garden art that my husband bought for me. It lights up when it works and is really pretty. I like it just as much without the light.

I also planted a bunch of new plants that I’ll share soon. I even got my tomatoes and peppers in earlier than normal. I’m pretty excited about that. Maybe I’ll have a homegrown tomato by July 4th. Fingers crossed.

April was busy but I didn’t get a lot done in my art studio. That’s just about to change. As soon as I get my plants in the ground that is!
