Painted dog portraits of three pit bull mix shelter dogs.

Recently, I had a client contact me to paint a few dog portraits of some sweet dogs that are in the shelter that she volunteers at, NewLife Rescue & Adoption in Mt. Vernon, IN (previously Posey County Pound Puppies).

Her initial intention was to give them to the potential new adoptive parents of the dogs in hopes of enticing an adoption. The three that were painted have been in the shelter the longest and I think one has been in for most of his life, almost three years. So sad.

Here’s these sweet babies.

Of course I wanted to help and I also wanted to see if we could go further and raise some actual money for the shelter. So I painted all three and now I’ve set up a special shop to sell various printed items like t-shirts, puzzles in 3 sizes, stickers, notebooks and more to come.

So, I got to work on the dog portraits and here’s a little of that process. To start, a quick sketch on the canvas panels.

Next up painting in some background colors. I picked secondary colors because I thought they would pop with their sweet faces.

I didn’t remember to take any photos of the painting of their faces. When I get in a zone, which I love, I just am almost painting like I’m a channel. A lot of the time, I don’t even know how I create the paintings I do. It just happens. hah

Like I mentioned above, I’ve created a special stand alone shop with just these paintings in it available as many items and you can see them here. Check back often, I’ll be adding new items as they’re suggested or if I just find a cool item I think would lend itself well to these paintings.

Until the end of May of this year (2024), I’m donating 50% of my profits to NewLife Rescue & Adoption.

If you would like to take a look in the shop and buy something, these deserving animals would benefit. Please take a moment to look, maybe pick up something for yourself or as a gift.

Also, if you have an idea for an item you would like to see these dogs on, please let me know. The selection is wide that I can choose from, but some items lend themselves better than others.
