Today, I want to start sharing my thoughts on paintings and my life as an artist or a favorite painting, by bringing what I have shared somewhere else, like Instagram and my Facebook page. Not that I don’t normally do this here in this space, but I realize I haven’t ever really stuck to a schedule for posting. I try to post once a week, but that doesn’t always happen. I was inclined to share this specific content because I’ve been spending considerable time on my Instagram account lately due to a challenge of sorts you might call it, but I’m going to call it a project. The 21 Days in my Art World project.

So you’ll be seeing a lot of hashtags in these stories and that’s because the short stories were originally shared on Instagram which uses hashtags as a main search engine feature. If you have been living under a rock, a hashtag is (for those old enough to remember) what we might call the pound sign or number sign. I’m not going to remove them as it might help somehow in any kind of searches with the almighty Google. I sure can use all the help I can get in that arena. I’ll quote out my original post from Instagram and then maybe add additional thoughts before or after for future posts here on my blog.

Let’s begin.

So today marks my first day of #21daysinmyartworld . The project was encouraged by @taraleaver It’s a way of inviting you to see what it’s like being an artist for a short while. I’ll share what I love, what inspires me, what’s not easy and what I’ve learned in my artist journey. More than anything, I hope this helps you find a way to connect with me and my art. Today’s prompt is a favorite painting. So I’ll begin.⠀

“Mystical Mother Nature” is a favorite painting of mine. I feel this painting describes me as an artist and person more than most of my paintings thus far. I love the mysterious nature of it with serene eyes watching you that seem to follow you around the room and the turquoise mist surrounding her land hiding her. It evokes a feeling of a warm embrace yet a bit of distant haunting. Which, if you know me very well is sooo up my alley. Not only do I love how this painting turned out, I really enjoyed painting it as well. It went through some transformations which echo my own as an artist. It will always have a place in my heart as I continue to grow.

Now, I’ve written a lot about my favorite painting already and I’ll link them here. However, if you want to get right down to the actual creation and photos of this painting in process then go here. Mystical Mother Nature actually started life as a different painting and I painted over it, like I have with many.

This painting has continued to be one of my most popular paintings and always attracts attention from at least a few people at most shows or art festivals. I do have prints available here and actually the original is still in my possession but I think I’ll hang on to this one for posterity.

I paint a variety of subjects including birds, koi fish, my gardens, ponds and flowers as well as anything having to do with nature especially trees and tropical scenes. I also enjoy painting abstracts and have started created more and more of them. My most favorite thing to try to achieve in my painting is is mystery and telling mystical stories.
