I attended my first Mini Con last weekend and it was a lot of fun! It was the first one for Alexandrian Public Library as well. I think it turned out so well, they’re already planning next years to be bigger and better.
Because of the space available, I had a smaller version of my booth there. I got lucky and had a corner, so I spread out a bit.
The turnout was surprising to me, in a good way. Mt. Vernon is a small town of 7,500 people and I’d guess most people drive the 10 miles east to the “big” town of Evansville for most functions. However, the people showed up to attend and the vendor area was packed. It was a good show! Especially since it was the first one of its kind. I will definitely go back.
This is Amanda, she is the one that got the show going and was in charge. Amanda and her team at the library did a great job, I have to give them kudos. They kept interesting things going during the show.
Next up is my friend JT (in the middle) and his son on the left and the daughter of a friend of mind on the right. JT put together the costumes and handmade many features on them. He’s an artist, too. JT has a cosplay page on Facebook called Costopia Creations. He takes commissions on original Cosplay items that he makes.
There were a lot of kids. This lovely young lady is Moana.
I tried to grab my phone each time I saw people dressed up. I didn’t take very good photos though, I admit.
I’m afraid I don’t know most of the characters I saw throughout the show. I did recognize a few though. Below I see Wonder Woman on the far right and in the middle is a steampunk character. Sadly, I don’t know the guy on the far left.
There’s something about this llama costume that makes me smile. Notice there are two sets of feet under it! Yep, there were two high school kids manning the costume.
There were two robots. I didn’t get a photo of the larger one but I did get video of it. The person had made it with a 3D printer! It was pretty amazing. I have video on my Facebook page if you’d like to see it. I made an album named Mini Con at Alexandrian Public Library and you can find all the photos and video I took if you’d like to look at them.
My friend Jody sat with me during the show, she’s on the right. We both had fun and afterwards went to eat some Mexican food. I’ll never turn down help, she helped me set up and tear down! It was a good day.
Learn more about me on the ‘About’ page in the menu at the top. I’m an artist – a painter mostly and an avid gardener. I paint a variety of subjects including birds, koi fish, my gardens, ponds and flowers as well as anything having to do with nature especially trees and tropical scenes. I also enjoy painting abstracts and have started creating more and more of them. My most favorite thing to try to achieve in my painting is mystery.
