Did you do anything fun over the weekend? I actually went to Haynie’s Corner for an art show, Funk in the City, and I wasn’t “in” it! Rarely does that happen. Mainly because there aren’t many art shows around here that I don’t show in. (There aren’t many art shows period, sadly)
My friend Jody and I share April birthday’s so we wanted to celebrate together and I suggested we walk Funk in the City. I’ve had a booth at Funk for lots of years and my last time there was just this past fall. It was pretty miserable then (hot), but this past Saturday was probably the best day they have ever had for a show. The weather was perfect.
I have to admit I was a little jealous while seeing many artist friends at their booths enjoying the shoulder to shoulder packed venue. I’ve purchased booth space many times for the spring show, only to not go because of threatening storms or rain. I have a lot of paper products (prints) when I do a show and I don’t want to ruin them. Plus, it’s just no fun standing in the rain hoping people come out to the show anyway.
My artist friend Vicki Wilson took a few of the photos, so I want to share her booth next. She specializes in paintings and her style is rustic farmhouse. I’m happy to hear she did very well at the show. You can find Vicki’s paintings here at her website.
Funk in the City is held in an area of Evansville, Indiana called Haynie’s Corner. Interesting side note here: Haynie’s Corner used to be the red light district in Evansville when I was young. It has since been revitalized and turned into the Art’s District. Now it’s turning into a sought after hip place to live. See art really does change things!
In the center of the area is a water fountain where people congregate and sometimes impromptu music gets played.
Jody and I had a lot of fun and I always love walking through an art show. Hopefully if I do the fall show, we’ll have this kind of turn out.
Learn more about me on the ‘About’ page in the menu at the top. I’m an artist – a painter mostly and an avid gardener. I paint a variety of subjects including birds, koi fish, my gardens, ponds and flowers as well as anything having to do with nature especially trees and tropical scenes. I also enjoy painting abstracts and have started created more and more of them. My most favorite thing to try to achieve in my painting is is mystery.
If you would like to keep up with what I’m doing, I have a newsletter e-mailed about once a month that gives you special status for invitations, birthday greeting and more. I’d love for you to add your email to my Friends and Collectors list!
