I painted this Ghost Pirate Ship with watercolors. It depicts a seemingly abandoned wooden ghost pirate ship being tossed around on the turbulent sea and stormy weather after having just lost it’s marauding crew. Arrrrgh!
I remember having fond memories from my childhood as I painted this in my studio. Not that I got to be on any cool wooden ships like this of course. But I do remember going to Disney World as a kid and the Pirates of the Caribbean being my favorite ride. Imagine my surprise and delight to see all the movies that have since come out about this attraction! The one with the Voodoo chick is my favorite I think.
It also makes me think of one of my favorite movies as a teenager, “The Goonies”. Remember the treasure they found in there? That super cool old pirate ship in the cave? The skeletons found inside the treasure room? *Sigh* just thinking about it takes me back to a simpler time of my youth. I think I’ve seen that movie a hundred times.
Using this same theme, I created a one of a kind treasure box. I kinda wished I hadn’t sold it now. It was a lot of work. The treasure box was purchased as a gift and I often wonder if the recipient loved it as much as I loved creating it. Do they still own it? You can see the finished treasure box here, if you’re curious.
Looking for a gift for the traveler or explorer in your life? Maybe your child loves all things pirate? I think this wooden ship painting would make a handsome set with the Monocular and Compass painting offered here.
The original is unavailable, but you can purchase prints, note cards and even a pillow! See it in my shop here.
