It’s that time of year again! My favorite holiday… Halloween!! This past weekend, I got to attend a Halloween Party where I got to dress up (EEEEEEE!) I am always so excited for this party to roll around. If my friend Denise ever stops hosting it, I’ll just die!
This year, unlike most previous years, I had no idea what I was going to be until about last Wednesday. A trip to Walmart and a quick walk down the Halloween costume aisle and I found a pair of antlers. That’s all it took. I planned to be an Evil Woodland Nymph. But since I’m quite un-nymph like I had to settle for Evil Woodland Fairy.
I don’t know what on earth I was thinking this year, but I wasn’t thinking about how much time all the things I wanted to do would take. First of all, we were gone the first full week of October for a Family Vacation in Florida and then when we came back, I told my son he could have two of his buddies over to stay the night and we could make Minecraft costumes for them all. Well guess who ended up doing all of it? Yep, me. So I was scrambling around looking for how to make two creeper costumes and one villager costume.
I just completed the final creeper like 5 minutes before the last parent picked up their kid which was 3:30. My friend Jody was on her way to my house and I was to paint her face up for the party as well as mine! I ran outside and started cutting twigs and flowers and picking up acorns and pinecones for my headpiece. Did I mention I was also supposed to take a side dish for the party? Yikes.
Jody got to my house and I was just starting to glue my headpiece together. She started to make my side dish for me – lifesaver. A cute mummy made from crescent rolls, pepperoni, spices and cheese. All her idea. I was flake out and take a jar of salsa… haha thankfully she is resourceful. I so wish I had stopped for just a moment to get photos.
We had less than 2 hours to get the both of us ready. I just had to wing mine. She had a photo of what she wanted me to paint on her and her clothing costume was already complete. Mine, not so much. I had bought about 8 yards of black tulle and 2 yards of gold tulle and 6 yards of brown satin. I had planned on making a silky shirt and skirt and a tutu for fairy likeness. I had to nix the silky skirt and shirt, no time.
Jody helped me make a no sew tutu I found on Pinterest. I discovered I didn’t have enough tulle. Ugh. Luckily, I had spools of tulle to fill in gaps, but not enough time to make a full skirt that I could wear without my butt hanging out. Jeans it had to be under the skirt. (never again – totally the most unflattering look) I put on a brown top I already owned and that was it. On to the makeup!
I didn’t get any pictures of either of our makeup because I was painting it on as fast as I could. I got hers done fairly quickly and had to just make mine up as I went along. I guess it’s okay for about a 10 minute makeup job. I wanted a different color, but I used the makeup in front of me (hers) to speed it up so we could get to the party. Below are the results. Of course it all turned out fine and no one even knew of all the flaws I saw and we had a fabulous time. I do plan to re-do it though and take photos to share and make a new tutorial to add to my adult themed costumes.
My friend and hostess Denise goes all out. She moves furniture out and decorates every room. I didn’t get many photos of her fantastically frightful decor and now I’m kicking myself because I’d love to Pin it!
Below is the only close up photo I have of our makeup and my lips are nearly gone. The specters and goblins kept rolling in, but I didn’t get everyone’s photo as I sadly had to leave early. I usually nearly shut it down and dance all night and sit at the fire pit she has outside to cool off.
I found this floating around on Facebook, it’s Gomez and Morticia Adams from the Adams Family – I’ve seen every re-run, I’m sure. I thought it was perfect for this post. I so love Halloween and dressing up, it’s how I let my freak flag fly! So when people say they don’t like Halloween, this is totally me:
I’ll leave you with a smile on your face… A dancing Yeti!
