As an artist, it’s a good idea to paint in a series. That series can be anything really that the artist wants to somehow connect paintings together. Maybe all square paintings, maybe all floral, or a certain color scheme or in my case today all moons.

I’ve painted in many different series like dreamscapes, floral and just about anything that feels similar. This is the first time for me to paint in a moon series. Now, you may be wondering how different can the moon be? Let me tell you…

Freshly painted moon sketch in my small sketchbook.

Above is the first moon I painted as an idea for my series. It’s in a tiny little sketchbook. If you look close, you can see the paint is still wet (it’s shiny).

Painting the very first Mystical Moon on paper.

My idea for this moon series came from out of nowhere, it just popped into my head. This is how most of my ideas occur, naturally. But I don’t recall being influenced by anything when I started painting it. Of course that’s totally wrong because we’re influenced by the moon all of the time!

The moon travels around the earth in an elliptical orbit. It moves through the different astrological signs every 2 and a half days or so. This change of the moon in each sign affects how we think, feel and act. It’s long been believed that there’s a better time to do a thing that we do, such as planting, harvest, start a business, color our hair, etc.. Think of The Old Farmer’s Almanac.

I follow the sidereal system of astrology. The Farmer’s Almanac goes by the tropical system. There’s a lot to explain the differences but just know that they can differ quite a bit, especially when planning anything by the moon.

Ideas in my sketchbook for the Mystical Moon Series.

So, my idea for the Mystical Moon Series is based on sidereal system. I take advantage of and use the energies from the sign the moon is in to create these moons. For instance, the first moons were created while the moon was in Gemini. I also noted it was the 11th moon day. I feel this captures the mood and energy in the painting as well as my energy as I create it. I feel that that energy then gets emitted to you while it’s in your home or space. And who doesn’t want all around good vibes, right?

Why is this important? If you’re into astrology, like I am, or just feel you’re a spiritual being, then the energy something or someone gives off is impactful. It affects your feelings and overall happiness when you’re with that person or designing your space. Have you ever been around someone and they just give off a weird vibe? Assuming they’re not a psychopath (just kidding), you’re both probably being pulled/affected by the sign the moon is in… Which may be strong or mild/good or not so good according to what all signs you have in your astrological chart.

There’s so much more that goes into this but that’s hopefully enough to think about right now. Not a believer? That’s okay, you can still appreciate the artwork and who knows maybe bring some good juju into your space without realizing it.

The first three moons on my easel.

I plan to give a little extra insight into each painting as far as what moon sign it was created in. Extras such as moon date, ruling planet, moon sign, what quarter it was created in, whether it’s a water, earth, fire or air sign and anything else I might feel is relevant to the painting. I’ll probably also include the sun sign it was created in as well. All of this adds to the energy I’ve put into the painting. I’m even planning on painting different transitions of the moon, like a crescent moon.

This may be seem novel to some and that’s okay. Wouldn’t it be a really unique gift though for someone who is into the moon and the stars or astronomy – as much as astrology lovers I’d say.

First three moons together.

Most of all though, I wanted to create original paintings at a price point that would encourage someone to start collecting original artwork. As of this date, these original paintings on paper will be just $40 each total, taxes and shipped (US- contact me if out of US before buying). Consider it an entry level gateway drug to lure you into collecting my original art. hah!

I realize, collecting original art is a privilege, not everyone has the means to spend on what feels like a frivolous thing. But art really isn’t a frivolous thing, it’s so much more. It brings hope and happiness and energy into your space! If it’s a piece you love, tt brings a smile inside every time you see it, it brightens your day as well as your walls. That’s more an essential to me, not frivolous.

Of course, there’s not a thing wrong with reproductions – I have many myself and of course I sell reproductions of my own work. However, there’s something extra special about owning a piece handmade, touched by the actual artist with their energy and love poured into it. It just has life in it. If you’re fortunate enough to own any original paintings, then you know that pleasure I’m talking about.

Jaime Haney and Lori Rivera

Here’s me on the left with my friend and fellow artist Lori Rivera. We had just put up our new art at Jennings Street Public House in Newburgh, Indiana. And that’s where you can purchase the first of my Mystical Moon Series paintings. I’ll be adding more to my website, snatch them up quick, especially if they’re in your own moon sign, there’s a bit of magic in that! I’ll update this page with a link when I have them listed. If you can’t wait, just contact me.

You may notice there’s not three up there. I kept the very first one (not in the sketchbook) for myself. I may offer it to my VIP list. All of the moon paintings are numbered. If you’d like to join my VIP list, click here. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll be famous and they’ll be worth a ton!

Side note: Do you know your moon sign? Want to find out? Go here.

A few paintings I’ve created

Learn more about me on the ‘About’ page under the additional links menu. I’m an artist – a painter mostly and an avid gardener. I paint a variety of subjects including birds, koi fish, my gardens, ponds and flowers as well as anything having to do with nature especially trees and tropical scenes. I also enjoy painting abstracts and have started created more and more of them. My most favorite thing to try to achieve in my painting is is mystery and telling mystical stories.

If you would like to keep up with what I’m doing, I have a newsletter called Visual Stories that’s e-mailed two to three times a month that gives you special status. Subscribers often get first dibs at new paintings, invitations to events, birthday greetings and more. I’d love for you to add your email to my Friends and Collectors list!
