Mother's day memories framed watercolor bunny

Mother’s Day is this weekend and I hope you get to make some memories with friends and loved ones. I wanted to share some memories that Mother’s Day conjured up for me today.

Other than me being a mom on this upcoming special day, I usually just think of my mom, not me when it comes to this holiday. Mother’s Day reminds me of all of the homemade gifts I used to make for my mom. Even as I got older, Mom always loved anything that I made for her. Especially if I made it for her – that made it extra special. Lots of homemade cards and art class crafts as gifts.

After Mom passed and while he was going through her stuff, my dad showed me all the little pieces of paper that she had lovingly saved that I scribbled “I love you Mom” on and had drawn flowers and hearts on. He questioned why weren’t there any with I love you Dad on them? Ha Ha. I’m sure there are some of those, too.

Honestly, I could’ve colored rocks and she’d been thrilled. I actually remember doing that. That’s a mother’s love, isn’t it? Always there, always loving. That’s my memory at least.

I am aware that it’s not that way for everyone. That truly makes me sad because I think everyone deserves to have a wonderful mom. Of course we do the best we can and I hope my son thinks of me someday as a wonderful mom.

I adored my mom and I miss her terribly. But I know that she instilled in me what it meant to be a good mother. I think she’d be pretty proud of the mother I’ve become. Even through the rough patches.

If you’re lucky enough to still have your mom around, make sure to give her hugs and treat her extra special this weekend. My mom’s side of of the family used to say, come here and let me hug your neck. That’s something only the mama’s said.

If you need a last minute gift, I have these sweet little watercolor paintings all packaged up and tied up with a bow. Frame included just $25 plus tax and shipping if needed. Local pickup available. Just reply to this and I’ll hook you up. I don’t have these listed in the shop and I don’t have time to do it so this will have to do for now.

I’d love to hear some good memories you have of your mother. Share them here in the comments.

Learn more about me on the ‘About’ page under the additional links menu. I’m an artist – a painter mostly and an avid gardener. I paint a variety of subjects including birds, koi fish, my gardens, ponds and flowers as well as anything having to do with nature especially trees and tropical scenes. I also enjoy painting abstracts and have started created more and more of them. My most favorite thing to try to achieve in my painting is is mystery and telling mystical stories.
