The past few weeks, I’ve been working on new paintings for the fall Funk in the City which is this weekend. I’ve got a mixed bag with this bunch. Some miniature abstracts that I’m turning into magnets and more paintings on blocks of wood. I even painted a Sugar Skull for the upcoming holidays and it’s already found a new home.

Collection of abstracts on tiny canvases. Soon to be magnets.

Here’s an abstract String of Pearls plant painting on wood. I liked how this one turned out. Nice color combination. I can’t remember the exact size, but I think it’s something like 3″x6″.

And here’s another plant painting on wood. It’s a jade plant, but that’s easy to see. Funny story about this one. Well not so funny really. The damn squirrel that’s been terrorizing me and Zoey (the studio dog) all summer on the deck ate my jade plant! Nearly every bit of it! I found one sprig left on the deck floor and I’m trying to get it to grow, inside now away from that little monster.

Today, I noticed that tree rat even ate one of my giant leaves off my split leaf philodendron plant! He’s a greedy thug, too. He totally ate all the bark off my corn plant and some of the leaves. I had to cut off the tops of each branch and they’re in water now trying to root. It’s just about time to bring the houseplants back in and none too soon. So much for summer vacation for my plants.

sugar skull painting

This new painting of a goth looking sugar skull was sold today after sharing it with my email subscribers. I try to hold back some new work to give my subscribers first dibs at it and it struck a chord with a collector of mine. She texted me that she had to have it right after I sent the emails today.

If you’d like to join my email list and get a few perks like first dibs on select paintings, Birthday Bucks and other fun stuff please sign up here. If you put your birthday on there I’ll make sure you get those Birthday Bucks to spend in my shop for your birthday month.

This Sugar Skull is available as a print here, so if you like this painting check it out!

Finally, I’m painting furiously in the studio this week. Too many ideas and not enough time for this notorious procrastinator. I even have a set of vintage water skis I had planned on painting a lake scene on but time is closing in. Maybe I’ll have to just offer them online. I don’t have any more art festivals that I’ve signed up for this year. I do however have some exciting news that I’ll share soon.
