Learning a new platform can be hard. Actually, learning anything new can be hard. However, I’m slowly but surely getting my new shop where I sell my art set up.
I’ll give you a peek here. It’s actually up and can take orders now, but I haven’t promoted it yet because I have so many more listings to put up. I do have my abstracts on paper from last fall listed and love the way they look all together like that.
Some things, such as on the front page, I can’t figure out where to change and/or add links. For instance, it says view collection but I’m not sure or maybe just can’t remember where to add that link.
*sigh*
I joke with friends and family that my brain is at full capacity. Something has to go out for new stuff to get in! But in reality, I do feel that way sometimes. Things just don’t stick. I’ve got notes for myself everywhere. Then I lose the notes.
Or sometimes, I don’t remember what the note pertains to. Jeesh.
But anyway, back to the new shop. The way this has come about is I kept having issues with my shop here on this site jaimehaney .com. I was using an e-commerce platform called WooCommerce and I was getting smothered with fake orders constantly. I had even purchased plug-ins to prevent it, but it persisted.
They were actually scammers. Sneaky bastards, too. They would create an account, add some artwork to their cart and try to check out with a stolen credit card.
In almost every single case, it didn’t go through. But one did and I was responsible to pay the owner of the credit card for the purchase made. Which seems understandable except I was never paid by the credit card companty in the first place! That money came out of my own pocket instead of the credit card’s or Pay Pal’s. So if I had sent out the artwork, I would’ve been scammed twice. Once having to pay the true owner of the credit card and secondly by sending out the fraudulently purchased art.
PayPal doesn’t have the best security for the seller. In fact, they wouldn’t do anything for me. They just took the money from my account against my will. Lesson learned.
So, now I’m giving LaunchCart a try. It’s similar to Shopify if you’ve heard of that. It’s a stand alone site and I’ll connect to it by adding links. It should be easy for any user to see something here that they want to purchase and check out probably without knowing they’ve left my site. I just need to get all of my broken links fixed and the main thing is getting all of my store re-listed that I had in WooCommerce.
Since it’s strictly an e-commerce site, they’ve got all kinds of security in place for scammers like that. It’s a relief to not have to worry about that anymore.
LaunchCart is pretty robust and I could just move my entire site over there if I wanted to. However, I have so many links to my blog on this site that I’ve had since 2009 that I don’t want to lose all of those back links. Those back links helps me rank higher in the almighty Google.
If you get a chance to take a look, I’d love to hear what you think about it.
Oh and here’s an update on the Calendar Giveaway from my last post. Two winners were chosen at random and they were Lisa G. and Angi P. Congratulations! Join my list for perks like this in the future.
Learn more about me on the ‘About’ page under the additional links menu. I’m an artist – a painter mostly and an avid gardener. I paint a variety of subjects including birds, koi fish, my gardens, ponds and flowers as well as anything having to do with nature especially trees and tropical scenes. I also enjoy painting abstracts and have started created more and more of them. My most favorite thing to try to achieve in my painting is is mystery and telling mystical stories.
If you would like to keep up with what I’m doing, I have a newsletter e-mailed about once a month that gives you special status for invitations, birthday greeting and more. I’d love for you to add your email to my Friends and Collectors list!
