Eight new Sunflower Art Blocks have been listed in my shop yesterday. Art Blocks are one of a kind small pieces of art painted on wood. I cut the wood for my tiny paintings in various small shapes and sizes with niche spots, cubbies, windowsills and desks in mind. These tiny pieces of art stand on their own and the larger ones have a keyhole cut out in the back so they can hang on a nail, perfect for grouping together on the wall to make a bigger impact as a collection.

Sunflower Art Block Collection

I remember when I was given the idea for the keyholes, it was at Funk in the City years ago (a local outdoor art festival). I had several newly painted Art Blocks offered for a lower price point of original art. These sell well at outdoor shows (are those ever coming back?). A woman came in my booth and was just smitten with them. She bought a handful. “I’m going to drill holes in the back and hang them as a group on the wall.” she said. I remember thinking, that’s genius! Also I thought, why didn’t I think of that?!

Although I call this the Sunflower Collection, they don’t all have sunflowers on them. Some are abstracts. However, I painted them to all to go together very nicely.

Painting with intent

The little sunflower art blocks themselves are great, but I’m also excited with how well the prints turned out. This Sunflower Collection, as I’m calling it, was painted with intention. By that I mean I kept the same color palette for each, so they really look nice displayed together. Also, they’re painted loose and free with larger paint brushes so I didn’t put too much detail in them. They’re very casual and contemporary looking I also think they have a bit of rustic farmhouse charm to them displayed in the right decor.

I’m really digging the way the texture of the wood shows through on the blocks and subsequently, the prints. It’s like you can reach out and feel the grooves and bumps.

It seems I’m on a sunflower kick lately. Just this week I’ve also finished up a new sunflower painting. I’ll have prints of it available soon, the original is sold. There were people inquiring about it before I even finished the painting! That’s exciting. There’s also a sunflower painting that I haven’t listed yet or even shared here on my blog. What’s wrong with me? I need to get my butt in gear! haha

This last sunflower painting, which you haven’t seen yet either (!), is much more detailed. I enjoy painting both ways. I’ll share that soon. It is shared on my Instagram a little with progress videos mostly and there are finished shots of it on my Facebook page if you want to see it sooner.

The Sunflower Art Blocks and any art blocks that I have available are found under “Other Cool Stuff” in the top menu of my site.

Aren’t we tired of wearing these dang masks? I know I am. My family keeps losing them. So if you’ve lost some or just want a happy new one, I have a couple of my sunflower paintings among other paintings available on masks on my print on demand shop. You can purchase here, but here’s a small sampling:

Talk to you soon!

Learn more about me on the ‘About’ page under the additional links menu. I’m an artist – a painter mostly and an avid gardener. I paint a variety of subjects including birds, koi fish, my gardens, ponds and flowers as well as anything having to do with nature especially trees and tropical scenes. I also enjoy painting abstracts and have started created more and more of them. My most favorite thing to try to achieve in my painting is is mystery and telling mystical stories.

If you would like to keep up with what I’m doing, I have a newsletter e-mailed about once a month that gives you special status for invitations, birthday greeting and more. I’d love for you to add your email to my Friends and Collectors list!
