"Old Timer" a whimsical white raven wearing a hat paintingPainting 5 is “Old Timer”, an old white raven with a whimsical hat perched on a tree limb with a colorful abstract sky behind him. I really enjoy creating little characters out of these ravens and crows that I paint. I feel they have a lot personality.

“Old Timer”, 8″x8″ was painted on masonite. The original is sold but prints are available as well as note cards. See the framed sold painting below.

It’s day 5 of the challenge and I feel I might be getting a handle on the scheduling how much time it actually takes me but it is Sunday and I didn’t have to do anything today. I am going to pat myself on the back though because I did make homemade chicken noodle soup and that took quite a while. I also washed a bunch of dishes so maybe I can survive this challenge when school starts back up. I’ll just need to do everything early.

We ended up getting some snow today, but not much but man it is frigid out there! Right now at 9:39 pm it is 13˚ F but feels like -7˚, it is supposed to get down to -5˚ by morning with -25˚ wind chill! Tomorrow a high of -3˚! Unbelievable!

Anyway back to the painting. I wonder how long some of you thought it would take me to get back to painting a raven? I have to admit, I have struggled with these first few paintings for this challenge. I’ve had a hard time thinking of what to paint. I didn’t want to paint my typical stuff, I am trying to stretch my reach but I’m not sure it’s working. I’m not totally happy with everything prior to today, but I am very happy with Old Timer. Maybe that is a sign that I should continue to paint the things I love to paint and change will come when it’s ready.

I want this painting a day for 30 days challenge to help make me with technique, more creative and well just better all around. I feel like I don’t really have a style for myself and I’m not entirely sure it that is a bad thing. I just am learning to accept I am who I am and that in itself is a style.

I’m not sure what I’ll paint tomorrow but it just might be another raven or crow. 😉
