About the painting Tropical Getaway Print: This is a print of my original painting and interpretation of the jungle landscape and two of the six traditional Thai-style houses of teak that make up the complex of the Jim Thompson House and museum in Bangkok. Jim Thompson was the founder of the world renowned Jim Thompson Thai Silk Company and a self-made American entrepreneur. Shrouded in mystery is his disappearance in 1967. Mr. Thompson went on vacation to the Cameron Highlands in Malaysia and reportedly went for a walk in the neighboring jungle and never returned.

While I love a good mystery, I love the lushness of tropical landscapes more and that’s the reason I painted this scene. Tropical feel is what I strive for in my home and greenhouse… lush tropical plants and rich colors and tones. I was drawn to this Jim Thompson House Museum while searching for inspiration photos. The red of the bungalows and the green of the plants in a million different shades just sucked me right in. Plus, the story is so intriguing. I knew I had to paint it. Paint it heck! I wanted to recreate it for my own home! But alas, I am in zone 6 in the midwest. Inside plants year round with summer vacations in Studio Gardens for me and no chance of disappearing in the Cameron Highlands, whatever they are. Maybe someday I’ll see it in person. Until then, I’ll just paint my own tropics.

About the printing process: Chromogenic color prints are full-color photographic prints made using chromogenic materials and processes, just like your photos you have processed. The print you will receive is matted and ready for you to take off the protective plastic sleeve and frame it to add a touch of the tropics to your space.

About the paper: Kodak Supra Endura photographic paper has an extraordinary color gamut and state-of-the art image stability. I prefer two of the four papers available, one is the matte the other being the metallic.

Most prints are on the matte photographic paper. But sometimes the painting just seems like it will glow and jump off the paper when using metallic paper, so on the paintings I feel the metallic would work well on, I include that as an option for you.

Metallic paper prints are a budget-friendly way to create modern wall art. Metallic paper provides an exceptionally vibrant print with the shine and shimmer of metal. This highly durable paper is mostly white with a signature metallic finish, making it ideal for a wide range of images. Please allow for a few extra days for a metallic print.

I do commission paintings if you are wanting an original of your own. Please let me know if I can paint you a version or if there is a special subject you would like to have painted. See more about commissions on my about page.
