The other day an artist friend I follow on Facebook asked if we meditate before we create our art. Mediation has not ever been something I sit down and proceed to “do”.

I’ve tried to sit in the center of my living room and found that I start to focus on all the sounds around me like our fish tank that needs water and the air conditioning unit running and then I start to think of what things need to be done. Then I notice wow, my house could use some air freshener… I give up and feel no “lighter” than before.

Then I started to think about it. I really do meditate, just not in the traditional sense, you know of sitting with your legs crossed and what have you.

My meditation is my garden and walking through the woods. It’s my beloved koi pond where truly, I cast my gaze upon and the minutes stop ticking. The fish are hypnotic as they swirl around and their beautiful fins flow through the water so gracefully.

Mother Nature is so grounding for me and always brings inspiration rushing back into my veins.

Nature of any kind will do. Something as simple as just being still and watching the busy world of an ant hill or hearing wind blow through pine trees (that sound ALWAYS makes me stop and look). Surely you’ve enjoyed the haphazard flight of a fluttering butterfly. Nature is everywhere and beckons for you to just stop for a moment and notice. All your cares just wash away, at least for a time.

To me, that is meditation.

I’d like to share with you two of my latest short videos of my meditation spots. I encourage you to be still and turn up the sound… meditate… even for just 15 seconds (the length of each video).

Next, the view from my art studio windows… It’s amazing I get anything painted.

If you’ve enjoyed these videos and would like to see more, follow me on Instagram where I post short 15 second videos quite often of my gardens and koi pond in my “stories”. Stories are photographs or videos that stay available only for 24 hours. I’ve found that to be the best, as I post them so often. People wouldn’t know I’m an artist if I put these on my regular feed, they’d think I’m just a nature nut – which I proudly am.

Learn more about me on the ‘About’ page in the menu at the top. I’m an artist – a painter mostly and an avid gardener. I paint a variety of subjects including birds, koi fish, my gardens, ponds and flowers as well as anything having to do with nature especially trees and tropical scenes. I also enjoy painting abstracts and have started created more and more of them. My most favorite thing to try to achieve in my painting is is mystery.

If you would like to keep up with what I’m doing, I have a newsletter e-mailed about once a month that gives you special status for invitations, birthday greeting and more. I’d love for you to add your email to my Friends and Collectors list!
