Mocee the cat is thrilled

Ahhh summer vacation is finally here. Long days of warm summer months with sleeping in and staying up late. That’s our favorite thing to do around here.

Yesterday was a big day for my son Asher. He had award ceremonies and it was his last day of 5th grade and the last day for him to attend that grade school. In a few months, he will join the ranks of Jr. High School. Oh Lawd help me.

His dad and I were so proud as he was awarded certificates on stage. He was only 3 B’s away from having straight A’s the entire school year. Even without that, he got on the A/B Honor Roll, The AR (accelerated reading) award certificate and the President’s Education Awards Program certificate and pin for outstanding academic excellence.

After the ceremonies, I watched as all the kids interacted with one another during cookies and punch. He is 11 now and I clearly remember being at that age and what was going on. I had already had several crushes by then. I look at the girls around him, most of them towering over him… and I wonder in the future what romance might someday brew. I’m a romantic at heart. I wish for him love and happiness. He however doesn’t even want to fathom the idea of it. I tell him the love bug will bite him someday and I smile at the thought.

For now though, he still is my little boy. As long as we’re not in public at least. I’m still the one to get hugs and kisses and snuggles on the couch and handholding during a scary movie. I treasure them for I know my time is limited and before long, he will be handholding with someone that has captured his heart. Again… I smile and wistfully remember that butterfly feeling in my stomach.

Today for the first official day of summer vacation I started out by sleeping in happily until about 9:45 am. I know I’ve said it before but to me, sleeping in is one of life’s great luxuries. Luckily, Asher feels the same way. No early birds here, we’re night owls.

Finally, I feel like myself after that dreadful 3 week cold. If you can believe it though, I still have a bit of a cough and sit down to rest after very much exertion. Ugh, I don’t want to be that sick for that long ever again.

I was asked to exhibit some paintings for an out of town library in July so I need to get back into my art studio. After all the rains that flooded it a few weeks ago, I still have moisture down there and the dehumidifier runs constantly although the water and mud has all been cleaned up.

Summer vacation will fly by and we have a couple destinations like Florida and Tennessee that will be thrown in as well. I have summer wedding to attend! My friends Jamie and JT are getting married and I’m pretty excited, it’s a theme wedding… Star Wars of all things! How fun will that be? I’ll share photos… it’s in a few weeks.
