Just seven short years ago, we had a 99% totality solar eclipse (you can read about it here) and now in just a couple of weeks, we’re having another solar eclipse only this time it’s going to be 100% totality. It’s kinda special, especially considering that in my area there won’t be another full eclipse for 129 years.
So, it’ll be 2153 and I’ll be long gone and so will everyone on this planet breathing right now. It’s kinda crazy thinking about the future like that.
According to NASA, there are at least 2 solar eclipses per year somewhere on the Earth. A total eclipse can only happen during a new moon. Total solar eclipses happen about once every year or two. So you can see this is pretty special.
I’ve got out my ever so handy Llewellyn’s Moon Sign Book and checked to see what sign the moon will be in on April 8th which is when the total eclipse occurs. Turns out it will be Aries.
That actually might be good, as it’s an outgoing sign and since there will be tons of people around, maybe people will get out and talk with one another. But also kinda bad as in it’s a fiery sign and could provoke fights. Things started in Aries are short lived so maybe just some heated discussions.
Aries also rules the head and face. So match that up with a new moon and an eclipse on top of everything, I wouldn’t be surprised to be experiencing a headache.
Talk about headaches, I heard on the news that we’re expecting a ton of people to swarm the area to view the eclipse. Commute times to and from work are expected to take three times as long! They have even closed the schools due to the impending traffic fiasco. Not good news for my husband whose place of work is on a major highway.
We live in a very rural area near our local 4H center. I recently discovered they’re renting out camp sites for people to stay and view the eclipse. They don’t have camp sites. It’s a field. So no water or waste service. That actually has me a little concerned. I hope after this is all said and done, I didn’t have anything to worry about.
So at my house, which is in the 100% totality range, I will have 3 minutes and 43.6 seconds of darkness. I found this by using the interactive Google eclipse maps developed by Xavier Jubier here. It’s pretty cool.
The total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. Of course all of our plans could be spoiled if it’s cloudy or rains. Let’s hope not.
I’m thinking of creating a new eclipse painting, because why not? I’ll never experience this again, so documenting the occurrence is intriguing to me yet again. You may or may not know I’ve painted my version of the solar eclipse and you can see it and purchase a print of it here. I think it’s cool that artists are painting their versions of the solar eclipse.
So, I’ve been thinking about how I want to go about the painting. Will it be focused on the eclipse like last time? Or will it be part of the landscape? I’m not sure yet. I might even paint a third after the event of my personal experience with this momentous occasion. My son will be with me since he’s out of school that day and I’m so excited to be able to share this rarity once in a lifetime event with him. Stay tuned!
You can purchase this painting “Luna Synchronicity” here as a print or on many nice products making it practical art!
