Happy September! I cannot believe it’s already September 1st, can you? The year has just flown by for me it seems. I wanted to give some updates and announce a new event that’s recently been added for the month of September.
First, remember the new baby koi fish I got back at the end of May? Well, they have grown as you can imagine. It’s been a joy watching them grow. They started out about 2-3″ and now I’d guess they are more like 6-8″. Some have grown more than others or maybe they’re just a larger type. I know it’s hard to tell here since there’s no reference like the large ones around them, but they are growing!
This summer’s not been without issue. I have seen the mink again (that ultimately killed 9 out of 13 very large koi during the late winter of 2022) but strangely, he was running though the front yard. Every morning the first thing I do is go out and count my fish and feed them.
I’ve also run off a couple of different cranes and last week, I found a muskrat in the pond! I think they are just plant eaters but boy he massacred my waterlilies. In addition to all of that excitement, the otters make their return occasionally and I’ve seen them twice this summer. I just hope they never find my koi pond and stay in the lake.
We’ve gone through a heat wave like most of the country and thankfully, that is over. My gardens are okay, my tomatoes aren’t producing much this year though. I think the black walnut trees that spring up everywhere are taking their toll on my soil.
My husband hits a birthday milestone this September, let’s just say he’s officially AARP material (55!) haha… Who am I kidding, AARP has been hitting me up since I turned 50.
My son Asher, now 17, has been busy all summer with dirt bike racing. That’s slowing down now and I think just one more race in September and that’s over. Things are moving fast for us with him. He’s been applying for college and he’s just applied for his first job, fingers crossed! He’s a senior this year and I’m so proud of him. He doesn’t like for me to share photos of him, but I think he’d probably be okay with this one.
Now to the last announcement, it’s another art event. I’ve signed up again for the Mini Con in Mount Vernon, Indiana. It’s held Saturday, September 23rd at Alexandrian Public Library. The times in the past, I’ve done pretty well sales wise. Hopefully, this year will be the same. It has occurred to me that maybe I should paint a few small things that would be interesting to the attendees to this event, not just the parents. I may try to bring a few stickers and maybe some drawings on top of my normal paintings and prints. Any ideas on what might be collectable for young people at a Mini Con?
And of course I’ve got my big one for September, the Fall Pop Up Gallery with my friend Lori Rivera. It’s the 28th, less than a week after the Mini Con!
I’ve got my work cut out for me! I better get back down to the studio. You can always see what I’ve got going on as far as events go on my Events page here.

Learn more about me on the ‘About’ page under the additional links menu. I’m an artist – a painter mostly and an avid gardener. I paint a variety of subjects including birds, koi fish, my gardens, ponds and flowers as well as anything having to do with nature especially trees and tropical scenes. I also enjoy painting abstracts and have started created more and more of them. My most favorite thing to try to achieve in my painting is is mystery and telling mystical stories.
If you would like to keep up with what I’m doing, I have a newsletter e-mailed about once a month that gives you special status for invitations, birthday greeting and more. I’d love for you to add your email to my Friends and Collectors list!
