Blooms I’ve noticed, come prolifically in May and June. However come July, things start to slow down considerably.
This year is no different. Since it’s the last day of July, I thought I’d share some of my favorites blooms from July.
This is a nice view of Studio Gardens in July. Lush and green from all of the rain we had. I love it. The magenta bee balm is of course a bee magnet. Although, I don’t see any in the photo, the butterflies usually flock to it as well.
Always a favorite of mine is what my mom always called tiger lilies. Some call them ditch lilies. Either way, they’re just beautiful in my opinion.
This peachy beauty is a day lily I bought from a lady that used to sell them from her yard, Candy Tolliver. She had quite a business. Sadly, she’s not selling anymore I don’t think. I wrote a blog post about her business called Seibert Lane Day Lilies here. It was a fun stop for me for a short while.
Here’s another view of Studio Gardens taken from the windows side of my art studio. I can look out and see this, aren’t you jealous? haha. This tall purple spiky looking flower is Liatris. I think she’s so elegant looking even though I had to prop her up with an upside down tomato cage. She usually stands tall, but this year the damn raccoons trampled her.
I love orange flowers. You might have noticed that already. I particularly love them paired with purple flowers. This double day lily is a show stopper. I can’t remember her name.
Here’s another plant that is on the art studio side of Studio Gardens. Hardy begonia. It’s nearly under my deck and seems to be pretty happy about it. The red veining is what I love most about this one. The flowers haven’t even started yet, but they sorta dangle and then form these beautiful dried seed pods that are just the most wonderful shape.
Oh and I have to leave you with a picture of my gentle giant, Sandefur. He plopped himself down on my foot so I couldn’t go anywhere. See him making biscuits with his giant paws? Summer is his favorite, too. I’m outside so much and he gets lots of attention.
That’s just a small taste of what has bloomed in my gardens this July. August usually proves to be a little more crispy and yellowy. And unless I’ve planted a lot of annuals (which I didn’t), less blooms to be seen.
Summer already feels to be winding down somehow even though the heat has been ghastly and we’re really only half way through. It goes by so fast and I’m already kinda bummed about being done with half the year.
I have so many photos that I want to share, but I’ll stop with this for now.
More to come…

I paint a variety of subjects including birds, koi fish, my gardens, ponds and flowers as well as anything having to do with nature especially trees and tropical scenes. I also enjoy painting abstracts and have started created more and more of them. My most favorite thing to try to achieve in my painting is is mystery and telling mystical stories.
