Like most of the US, we were impacted by winter snowstorm Fern. What a funny name for a snowstorm. Fern conjures up a lush green, summery, humid grotto for me, not icy, snowy storms.
In my area, we got about 12.5 inches of snow. This is a lot of snow, especially at once, for us. It arrived a week ago and with the frigid temps near zero each night so it’s still here. Wreaking havoc.
Thank God we only got a snowstorm and it wasn’t ice like Nashville got. We’ve had more than our fair share of ice storms. Actually, we are along that narrow band that usually does receive ice or a wintry mix. So I feel for the people there. Ice can be deadly.
That’s the good thing about southwestern Indiana, the winters are fairly mild in zone 7a. We usually don’t keep snow around for very long. Except this time. However, if it’s going to be cold it might as well have snow on the ground. It is pretty but honestly, I’m over it.
My birds are eating the seed like crazy. I’ve been refilling it and the suet a few times. Below is Loki, wore out from watching Cat TV. haha… the birds are oblivious, happily munching away and being so considerate waiting their turn. I love watching the birds. They are inspiration for some of my paintings. Oh and just so you know, you can click the link without any commitment to buying the products. Just go look, it’s so cool!
Check this out, I want this!
I really want to get this bird feeder I keep seeing people posting photos from on Facebook. It’s the BirdBuddy Pro. It looks fantastic with a 5mp camera for photos and a 2k video camera for taking videos! I can look at the birds up close without scaring them away right on my phone from anywhere. Plus, it’s solar powered, so I don’t have to worry about stretching out an electrical cord. Since I’m now an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.
That means if you happen to want this feeder too, use my link and I’ll earn a tiny bit that doesn’t cost you anything but helps my art business. I appreciate any support, whether you buy my art or just click on my affiliate links and purchase something. It helps me buy paint and canvas and just being able to keep creating art.
Meanwhile, in Studio Gardens, the snow has a way of making it look just magical. Below, is my new to me lady statue that my friend Kelly gave me. It’s extra special because it was given to her by a mutual friend of ours, Jane, who we sadly lost suddenly last fall. I’ll forever think of Jane now every time I look at this statue.
My favorite angel statue holding a little bird is below. You can’t see the little bird though because it’s covered in snow. These statues are under my deck believe it or not! The wind blew the snow in. It’s much deeper in the open area. In fact, you can’t even see the koi fish pond in the background.
Lastly, a photo looking out over the greenhouse two days after the snowstorm. Blue skies and glistening snow. It’s frightfully cold. The sunshine is deceiving.
So that’s what my house looks like, still. It’s been an entire week and the snow hasn’t budged. The greenhouse roof has melted off though. So, my plants are getting sun at least. I’ve got Sandefur holed up in there. He’s not happy about it, he’s locked in. It’s too cold to take the chance of him not being able to get back in so I locked his little cat door. Nothing can get in or out. Maybe tomorrow I’ll let him out. But he really won’t like the deep snow! Haha… I should get a picture of that. If I do, I’ll share it here.
Til next time. – Jaime
p.s. If you want to see which cat door that I have going into my greenhouse for Sandefur, it’s right here. Again, I’m an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. But go look anyway, it really works great. I’d totally buy it again.
