Last night, I had a summer painting class at Owensville Carnegie Library again. It was fun night and we painted Gerbera Daisies. I had 15 signed up but as usual, I had a few no shows.
I had several students return from previous classes, which I’m always happy about. But I did get to meet some new ones and they were great.
Two selfies because I wanted to get everyone in the photo. I’ve mentioned before that this is my favorite place to have a class (so far) because the room is so nice. It’s the annex of Owensville Carnegie Library called Chapter 2.
I had fun teaching this bunch. They were open to suggestions and took it further by making the painting their own.
When I have a class I always make sure to tell the students that I’m there to help guide them and answer questions. I first give a quick lesson about composition and some tips for how I achieved my painting and then I encourage them to use their own creativity and make changes.
It never needs to look like mine to be a success. In fact, I encourage them to make it different. The mother and daughter duo is a perfect example of this. The mom painted a dinosaur in hers, I loved it! Her daughter, was ambitious with her painting. you’ll see it in a minute.
One of my favorite things about teaching these painting classes is I get to see creativity through their eyes. It never ceases to amaze me the ideas that people come up with and the beautiful paintings they create.
We’re all a creative lot, let me tell ya! Humans are creative by nature.
Everyone’s got different shaped flowers, different colors and compositions. All are beautiful.
This painter is contemplating her next move. She mixed colors together to get just the right shade of dusty pink.
This painter came with a color combination in mind already. She wanted warm, paprika colors against a denim sky. I’d say she reached her goal.
I had a couple of the students tell me where they’ve hung up their painting that they did with me in the past. One was a boat and the other fall trees. Nothing makes me happier than to know they’re proud of their work enough to hang in their house.
This young artist did her own thing, which I’m thrilled about. She painted her dog Banjo. I think she did a fantastic job. What is it about kids? They paint without any constraints. I strive to be that way, it’s harder than it seems.
Here, we’re starting to wrap it up. I love seeing all the bright colors.
Everyone’s paintings turned out just fabulous. Look at all those different flowers oh and and a dog and a dinosaur :).
If you’re interested in taking a painting class with me, I usually have another one in the fall at the same place in Owensville. Get on my mailing list and you’ll be alerted to any upcoming classes. I’ve also got a digital class coming out for this particular gerbera daisies painting. I’ll update this post as soon as I have it ready and I’ll probably post a new blog post announcing it. However, if you’re on my email list then you’ll learn about it first.
What’s next? I’ve got 2 months of exhibits at Alexandrian Public Library in Mt. Vernon, Indiana. I’ve got September and October. You can keep up with my events on my Events Page.
Learn more about me on the ‘About’ page under the additional links menu. I’m an artist – a painter mostly and an avid gardener. I paint a variety of subjects including birds, koi fish, my gardens, ponds and flowers as well as anything having to do with nature especially trees and tropical scenes. I also enjoy painting abstracts and have started created more and more of them. My most favorite thing to try to achieve in my painting is is mystery and telling mystical stories.
If you would like to keep up with what I’m doing, I have a newsletter e-mailed about once a month that gives you special status for invitations, birthday greeting and more. I’d love for you to add your email to my Friends and Collectors list!
